Candles for Rites: How to Decorate Them and Other Uses

In your research into rituals, candles, ritual equipment, and altar items, you have no doubt come across hundreds of differing but equally valid suggestions for how to best use candles. Many sources have probably told you to "dress" your candles in preparation for a ceremony.

So, what exactly does it mean to "dress your ritual candle?" Do you dress up your ritual candle in a cap and attire? Where may I locate a pair of nice shoes and a blouse? You COULD do that, but it would make lighting the candle for the ceremony a little more complicated, so maybe this post should just get to the point and explain to you how to outfit your ritual candle.

It is important to note that candles purchased from Crystal Journeys, such as the Enchanted Works Ritual Candles, are already correctly perfumed and prepared for use in ritual, and all you have to do is light them. They are completely prepared to begin. You may choose to dress them if you desire, but be aware that the combination of their potent fragrances with another strong fragrance might have a disorienting effect. Although hallucinations may play a role in the rituals of certain groups, they are not always welcome. So, just be cautious, okay?

As with the question of the candle color or kind to employ for certain work, there is no consensus on how a ritual candle ought to be dressed. That is to say, there are as many viewpoints as there are smudging candles. You're free to take these methods with a grain of salt or run with them if you choose. Do not believe claims that there is just "one genuine method" to decorate a candle for a ceremony. Kestra rejects the "one true path" ideology as antithetical to Wicca.

The flame at the top of the ceremonial candle represents you. The "base" of the ceremonial candle represents reality beyond your control. This simplifies things, at least from my perspective.

Dress the candle from the outside (base) to the top (wick) to attract whatever it is you want (head). With a drop of oil on your finger (not too strong essential oil that will burn your finger), Kestra recommends working in a spiral from the bottom of the ritual candle to the top. Drawing spells is a clockwise process for Kestra, performed during the waxing phase of the moon. While doing so, it might be helpful to confirm your goal and beg for its realization.

To remove anything from oneself, like bad vibes, the use of a tool infused with another person's energy, illness, misery, etc., you need to do the procedure in reverse. During the waning moon, begin at the top of the ceremonial candle and spiral counterclockwise to the bottom.

Feel free to substitute anything you think to be more effective for your own needs. It's not like there's only "one way to do it." Why not utilize it if it makes you feel good? If you piss off the powers that be, the worst thing that might happen is a lightning strike:-).
