Galvanized Pipe

Be aware when buying an older house that the pipes may be made of galvanized steel. If this is so, it is likely that the pipes have built up sediment inside. This will commonly allow for leaks in the pipes, especially at the joints. It can also cause the water to appear light brown or rusty colored.

If problems are not immediately noticed, the pipes do not necessarily have to be replaced. It is recommended, however, that the pipes are continually inspected.
