OnePlus Watch Cobalt Limited Edition
Along with the OS, the $ 159 / £ 149 smartwatch had features like a crisp AMOLED display, GPS, blood oxygen monitoring, a 4GB music player, and a promised two-week battery life in a stainless steel case.

Unfortunately, when it came time to review the OnePlus Watch, their debut watch missed a lot for us, and it was a shame it wasn't quite scratch-ready after waiting so long to finally see it.

APRIL: FITBIT LUXE BRINGS THE FITBIT FEATURE WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR.
2021 in wearables: revisiting the biggest launches of the year

In April, the release was dominated by affordable wearables: the Huawei Band 6 , TicWatch GTH and Realme Watch 2 entered the scene . In addition, we finally received global pricing information for the Xiaomi Mi Band 6 .

It was on Fitbit to give us our biggest launch of the month with the surprise arrival of the Fitbit Luxe. The slim and stylish fitness tracker was a new member of the Fitbit family, although it clearly resembled the Alta trackers that it seemed to leave behind in favor of the Inspire and Charge trackers.

Despite its thin frame, the Luxe promised a rich set of features, including a heart rate monitor and SpO2 sensor, connected GPS, stress and sleep tracking, and the ability to measure skin temperature and respiratory rate. It also includes an AMOLED color touchscreen, making it the first Fitbit fitness tracker to feature a full color screen.

The combination of this sleek look and solid performance meant the Luxe was a standout tracker in 2021 and was rightfully named our 2021 fitness tracker.

Perhaps the biggest wearable tech launch in 2021 was actually not a piece of hardware, but software that is painting an exciting future for Google's smartwatch ambitions.

The Wear OS platform has really struggled to establish itself as a strong alternative to Apple watchOS, Samsung's Tizen, and advanced operating systems from Fitbit and Huawei.

At the Google I / O developer conference, a new version of Wear was unveiled, created in collaboration with Samsung and leveraging the expertise of Fitbit, now owned by Google. Wear OS 3 aims to combine the best of Wear with Tizen and Fitbit, with Samsung also announcing its next Galaxy Watch will run on the new Wear.

In the coming months, we will also find out what these new clothes mean for current smartwatch wearers running Wear OS 2.0, and if they can be part of this exciting new future.

Huawei released its first (and not last) smartwatch in 2021 with the Huawei Watch 3 . Its most expensive smartwatch, but clearly aimed at competing with the Apple Watch , Samsung Galaxy Watch and Wear OS smartwatch, was the first to introduce its HarmonyOS platform, adding an app store and making general UI and performance improvements.

Huawei has already impressed with its GT series smartwatches, and the Watch 3 has continued that trend by offering a feature-rich and attractive smartwatch. While its Harmony OS lacks apps and some other software features, it's clear that Huawei's future in terms of smartwatches could be bright.
