A flat or slightly pitched roof is termed as flat roofing or low slope roofing(https://www.roofingalbatross.ca) . Installation of the dead flat roof is not feasible because there is a need to have some slight slope in the roof for the drainage purpose. Both terms, i.e., low-slope and steep-slope describe the slope or slant of the roof.
The slope of a low-slope roof is less than 3-in-12. The previously mentioned figure indicates that for every flat foot, the roof level vertically increases but it is usually less than 3 inches. Besides that, a steep-slope roof or usually termed as a shingle roof, the slope depends on the gravity to let the water flow in a single direction or outlet so that it sheds the water that gets accumulated on the roof. Moreover, the standing water can damage the shingle. As the water breaks the bond between shingles and roof, which further leads to detaching of the shingles from the roof.
However, when it comes to a flat roof or low-sloped roof, it does not depend on the specific flow direction of the water so it needs to form a monolithic membrane to act like a watertight. Additionally, the modern low-slope roof tends to use a continuous membrane that can avoid pools of standing water.
