Terms to Know in Cybersecurity

We have all heard about cybersecurity and have heard time and again about how important it is to take care of our technical devices and more. But if we do not understand all of the tools and terms that come with it, you may find that it is really hard to get things going. Understanding the tools will put you i the drivers’ seat so that you will understand why you need to take care of things so much. Some of the terms you should know about cybersecurity includes:

# Network: This is going to be all the interconnected digital devices that will exchange information and resources with one another along the way.
# IP address: This is the unique identifier assigned to all the networks and devices with internet access.
# Virtual private network: This can also go by the term VPN. It is an encrypted internet connection that goes from a device over to a network.
# Black hat hacker: This is a hacker who tries to get onto a network or a computer to steal the information for their own personal use.
# White hat hacker: This is someone who will do the same thing as a black hat hacker, but they get on to find the vulnerabilities and fix them before a black hat hacker can get on there.
# Firewall: This is a network security feature that is designed to monitor incoming and outgoing network traffic to help block any access that shouldn’t be there.
# Domain name System: This is a directory of domain names that will align with IP addresses so users are able to search through the URLs.
# Encryption: This is the process of scrambling readable text so that it can only be read by one person, who has to have the key to get it to work.
# Authentication: This is the process of verifying a user’s identity so that they can access the data or the system that is meant to be secure.
# Data breach: This is going to be the result of a successful cyberattack where a hacker gets in and then uses the information for their own needs.
