Wall decoration with fabrics was used in the interiors of royal residences and the houses of the nobility. This kind of decor made the space majestic, cozy or formal, depending on the texture and color of the paintings used.

Modern finishing materials allow you to create coatings that imitate fabric. Moreover, their application does not require much effort, and the result is striking in its originality and beauty. For example, velvet wall paint can convey all the depth and tenderness of the original material. You just need to choose the right paint and apply, following simple rules.

Specifications
Velvet effect wall paint is a water-based emulsion. When applied to a surface, it forms a coating with a special texture. This effect is achieved due to the content of fine-grained particles in the paint. They shimmer when exposed to natural or artificial light and are reflective.

The following qualities are inherent in velvet paint:

resistance to ultraviolet radiation;
immunity to temperature changes;
durability: the coating is able to retain its original appearance and properties for 5-10 years;
immunity to mechanical damage of the average level of impact;
high drying speed;
ecological cleanliness and safety for human health;
the ability to hide some wall defects;
lack of a pungent odor.
Another advantage of textured coating: a wall with decorative paint applied to it can be cleaned of dirt. To do this, it is enough to treat it with soapy water.

Surface preparation
The peculiarity of the textured paint and varnish material is that it is applied only to a perfectly flat and clean surface. The preparation of the wall is carried out in stages:

Removal of old finishes, various dirt, mold and traces of mildew.
Leveling with putty. Elimination of all cracks and irregularities.
Sanding the wall.
Dust removal and surface finishing with special reinforcing compounds.
The emulsion with a velvet effect fits well not only on the putty, but also on brick, concrete or a surface finished with drywall sheets. This property allows you to perform surface preparation not only in accordance with the above instructions, but also in any convenient way.

Required tools and materials
In order to create a covering on the wall that imitates velvet fabric, you need a set of tools and building materials available to everyone:

Special primer. It is better if it contains quartz sand or another element with a fine-grained structure.
Decorative emulsion. On the construction market, there is a wide selection of such paint not only from domestic, but also from foreign manufacturers. Moreover, both materials are of high quality.
Varnish. The use of this paintwork is optional. But applying a layer of matte or clear varnish will create additional protection on the wall surface and enhance the effect of the paint. The coating will become impervious to moisture.
Color. It is necessary because the emulsion is white in color. The color scheme gives the velvet-effect coating the shade that matches the overall design idea and is in harmony with the room environment.
Roller with medium pile for priming walls.
A spatula, wide brush or sponge for painting walls and giving them the necessary texture.
A smoothing trowel for finishing the painted surface.
After purchasing all the necessary components, you can start creating a spectacular coating on the wall.

Dyeing
The main condition, the observance of which is necessary for high-quality decoration, is a smooth and clean wall surface. After its preparation, the process of applying paint begins:

The first layer is a primer. It is applied with a roller; if desired, the master can use a spray gun or other convenient tool. The primer mixture is evenly distributed over the surface and left to dry for 3-4 hours.
The second layer is velvet effect paint. You can use a spatula or sponge to spread it over the wall, but a wide brush will be the most convenient tool. With its help, you can apply the emulsion in a thin layer and immediately give it the desired pattern. Staining is performed with chaotic and circular strokes. Further processing of the coating is not carried out until the moment the paint hardens.
The dried surface is treated with a trowel. This helps to eliminate significant irregularities while maintaining the created texture of the coating.
The last to be applied is the varnish. It favorably emphasizes the pattern, creates additional protection against moisture and mechanical stress. The use of varnish gives an additional guarantee that the surface will not be damaged when the coating is treated with soapy water.
After finishing the finishing work, the interior partitions will look spectacular and harmonious. The "velvet" coating will add coziness to the room. In this case, the drawing on the surface will depend only on the imagination of the master and the tool he uses!
