A First-Time Traveler's Guide to Pahalgam in Kashmir

Welcome to Pahalgam
Pahalgam means “village of shepherds,” and even with hotels and taxi stands lining its main road, the name still fits. The town sits at about 2,130 metres (7,200 feet) in Anantnag district, where the two branches of the Lidder River meet and run down through pine-covered slopes. For many first-time visitors to Kashmir, this is the stop that stays with them longest: quieter than Srinagar, greener than Gulmarg, and shaped by the mountains on every side.
