Common FAQs about FASTag explained

Presume you are driving your car on an Indian State or National Highway. You usually drive at a decent pace, but you stop when you arrive at the toll plaza. It not only slows down your ride but also dampers your mood, mainly if there is a queue of vehicles. However, with the Indian Government's latest FASTag programme, you pay toll charges without waiting at any toll booth. You maintain the momentum and enjoy the journey.

There are several other advantages to being a member of FASTag. Let us understand the concept better with FAQs:

• What is FASTag?
It is a reloadable card that gets attached to the vehicle's windscreen. This electronic card functions as a Debit Card. Your toll tax gets automatically deducted each time you drive through the FASTag toll. Radio Frequency Identification Technology gets used for constructing the tag. It allows for immediate transactions.

• How to buy and apply for FASTag?
The system is available via digital wallet websites and public and private sector banks that the Indian Government approves. You need basic information like name, email, address, and vehicle information like make, model, style, and Registration Certificate book.

• How to apply for FASTag offline?
Since not all vehicle owners have online access, the Government has planned for applying for a FASTag offline. You get the card by going to a bank that serves as a POS terminal. Alternatively, you apply for the tag at the nearest electronic toll collection plaza.

• How to recharge the FASTag card?
Net banking, Debit or Credit Card, and digital wallets such as Paytm are all options for recharging your FASTag online.

• What are the application charges? Which is the maximum recharge amount?
Depending on the vehicle type, you buy a FASTag toll card for Rs. 200 plus a maximum deposit sum of Rs. 200. If you misplace your card, you get it reissued for a charge of Rs. 100. The maximum sum that gets recharged is Rs.1 lakh.

• What are the benefits?
It is effortless to apply for FASTag. You need not stop at the FASTag electronic toll collection plaza to pay the toll. It saves not only time but also fuel. Besides, the Government provides on-duty drivers with additional benefits like up to 2.5 % cashback on any purchase, emergency road services, and Rs. 1 lakh in accidental insurance coverage, among other items.

• How to know if the transaction has taken place?
Your account gets connected to your FASTag wallet. The amount gets deducted as soon as you drive through the toll plaza. An SMS message is sent to your mobile, informing you of the transaction.
