How to Declutter Before Moving Out of Your Apartment

One of the first things you should consider doing when it is time to move out of your apartment is to take the time to declutter. You have likely accumulated a lot of different items along the way that will need to go to save you time and expense during the moving process. If you keep all of the items, most of which are probably trash and you have long forgotten about, then you are just wasting a lot of time. Instead, you need to take the time to declutter and get rid of the items you no longer need.

The first thing to do is come up with a plan. Have a box for throwing away, a box for donating, and one for what you will keep. Do this for every room in the apartment. And as you go through, every item you touch needs to go into one of the three boxes. Make sure you are brutal. If you are uncertain about whether to keep an item or not, think about whether you want to put in the effort to carry it around or move it to a new location. And if you don’t even remember an item, then it is time to throw it out.

Take your time doing this, which means you will want to focus on one room at a time and start early. You may even decide to just spend an hour or two each day so that you don’t feel too rushed about the process. Get rid of as many items as possible. Once you are done with one room, throw out all of the items you are no longer keeping right away so you aren’t tempted to just pack them up and take them with you. get to the donation center right away; do not wait until the whole apartment is decluttered either.

As you steadily move through your apartment, you will see that it gets cleaned out and will be more manageable when you move. Consider cleaning the rooms well when you do this so there is less to do when it is time for the move-out day too.
