The connections are what keep this world together. Not just the world, but the communications network is also connected with these connectors. The engineers are constantly looking to extend the network by connecting more devices and fibre lines. Well, there are a ton of connectors that any engineer or technician would have to use. For newbies and even normal people, getting information about the types of connectors is pretty difficult. In this post, we are going to share all the information about the types of connectors that are prominently used in the communications and networking industry. With every connector type, we are going to share detailed information on the same.

Types of Connectors in Networking
#1 - Circular Connectors
Circular connectors are pretty common in the communications industry. As the name suggests, they are circular and useful in connecting the big cables with each other or the host devices. Such connectors are not used for consumer-end servicing but for high-end communications devices like towers, routers, and even servers. The circular connectors are also rugged, making them last longer and handle all the environmental stress and wear and tear.

#2 - Co-axial Connectors
The coaxial connectors are commonly used to connect the co-ax cable. Co-ax cable is pretty popular in the communications industry. Most of the media and broadcast companies prefer using co-ax cables to distribute the television signals. Also, the DTH dishes and set-top boxes are connected with the co-ax cables. To connect such devices, coaxial connectors are highly essential.

#3 - Pluggable connectors
The pluggable connectors are micro-connectors, which are mostly soldered onto the Printed Circuit boards. The pluggable connectors are pretty small and will require a lot of precision while connecting them. The most common Pluggable connectors are SATA for data transfer,  PCI, QSFP, and SAS for various reasons. The Pluggable connectors have the supporting male and female versions to easy connections.

#4 - Rectangular Connectors
The rectangular connectors are commonly used for power and network signals delivery. They offer board-to-board connections or board-to-cable connectors. Most of the rectangular connectors are small and are soldered onto the printed circuit boards for convenient connections. They are used to connect the multiple circuit boards or the devices with each other. Also, multiple cables can be connected to the board with rectangular connectors. Not just the signals and communications, such connectors are commonly used for power delivery. You can find them even in the consumer electronics components like computers and air conditioners.

#5 - D-Shaped Connectors
D-shaped connectors are meant for devices or connections that require multiple contact points. The printers, graphics cars and other heavy-duty equipment are a few devices that use the D-shaped connectors. Usually, they are available on computers in the form of VGA connectors, HDMI connectors and many others. D-Shaped connectors are still used in high-end communications equipment, but it not much popular nowadays.
