Displayed hair is what we see on the shaft, i.e. the upper area of the scalp. The remaining part of the hair lies beneath the topmost layer of the skin or the scalp. The lower part of the hair is called the hair follicle. This is the underlying part which constitutes the biological structure of the hair. This is where the hair develops and grows.

Hair follicle has its own growth cycle, however.  Generally, if it is not affected by any external factors, it can keep growing hair till a person is alive. However, there are numerous factors that have a serious impact on the hair fall that can affect anyone at any particular age.  Once loss of hair occurs, there are absolutely no or few chances of revival of the hair follicles. And therefore, for such cases of hair loss, the only solution is that of hair transplant surgery. Through transplantation, either FUT or FUE, the basic method remains that of extracting healthy hair follicles from DHT resistant area of the scalp.  These follicles are then implanted to the balding area of the scalp. If we consider that the transplant was carried out by an expert and most advanced equipment were used negating any chances of failure, then it is expected that 95% of transplanted follicles will survive and will grow further.

However, as far as life span of transplanted hair is concerned, there are several factors which require to be analyzed before anything considerable could be stated. These factors which can seriously affect the growth of hair are as described below.

Genetic Makeup of Transplanted Follicles: Men suffer from baldness more than women.  Most of the men suffer from androgenetic alopecia caused due to DHT factor. This factor states about genetic makeup of follicle. At the same time the genetic make-up is also related to its quality of resistance towards DHT. If it is so that the transplanted hair has genetic makeup that makes them DHT resistant, only then it is possible that the transplanted hair will survive. In all other cases it is quite common the transplanted hair will fall off quite soon.

Medication:

Rogaine and Propecia are best known medicines in order to check hair loss. However, the medicine should be taken continuously. If discontinued, then the hair fall returns at a higher pace. So, if a person is on medication for quite long time, then it is possible that even his DHT sensitive follicles survive. And in such cases, there are chances that doctors pick a spot for grafting or extraction which are actually not DHT resistant. These patches have managed to live only because of medication. Further, it is also good that the medication is continued after hair transplantation, but forever, as it will not let hair fall trouble you again.

Age:

Hair loss in men can be categorized in 7 stage basis Hamilton scale. For women similarly there is Ludwig scale. The final stage in both portrays conditions that are almost in such a stage so that; hair does not fall beyond those stages. And therefore, if a person gets hair transplant in Pune quite early in life, then he or she will not have probabilities of hair fall to a large extent. And sometime, DHT sensitive hair is extracted and transplanted as there is no way to determine DHT resistance of hair. Such hair follicles remain to be active till a mature age of around 40-45 years.
