PoE 2 U4GM Tips: Why Hammer of Faith Hits Hard

Heavy physical attack builds in Path of Exile 2 often reach a point where another rare weapon offers more attractive individual rolls, yet the full loadout becomes harder to balance. Hammer of Faith takes a different approach. Its high physical output is paired with resistances, mana sustain, and temporary Shrine effects, giving players a practical way to simplify gearing while keeping a hard-hitting playstyle. That matters when planning Path of Exile 2 Currency spending, because fewer defensive gaps can reduce the need for expensive upgrades elsewhere.

The Weapon Rewards Heavy Hits, Not Rapid Swings

Hammer of Faith is a Giant Maul that requires level 65 and 114 Strength. Its listed base data includes 409-613 Physical Damage, a 5% Critical Hit Chance, and 0.99 Attacks per Second. The defining modifier grants 300-350% increased Physical Damage, which immediately points toward attack skills that scale the strength of each strike rather than relying on a long chain of fast hits.

The 10% reduced Attack Speed is the trade-off that shapes the entire build. A character using this maul may feel slower during ordinary packs, especially if the skill already has a lengthy animation. However, that slower rhythm can work well with attacks that have strong area coverage, stagger value, or meaningful damage on a single impact. In practice, positioning becomes more important: missing one swing is more costly, while landing it should make a visible difference to the life bar of a rare enemy.

Use Its Defensive Stats to Free Other Slots

Hammer of Faith also adds 10% to all Elemental Resistances. That number may look modest beside a large damage roll, but it can be the difference between replacing a ring for damage or keeping it solely for survival. Endgame gearing is often a series of compromises between Life, attributes, resistances, and offensive bonuses. A weapon that contributes to the defensive budget gives the rest of the loadout more room to specialize.

The 50% increased Mana Regeneration Rate serves a similar purpose. Expensive attack skills can make resource recovery awkward, particularly when a player wants to reserve equipment slots for damage or mobility. This modifier will not solve every mana problem, and the result depends on skill costs, regeneration sources, and attack frequency, but it can remove the need for several smaller fixes. That is especially useful during progression, when a perfect rare weapon and a complete support setup are both out of reach.

Historical Improvements Make Older Copies Worth Inspecting

Players should check existing Hammer of Faith copies before selling or replacing them. In version 0.4.0, its increased Physical Damage range moved from 250-300% to 300-350%. An earlier improvement had already raised it from 200-250% to 250-300%, and eligible older items could be updated with a Divine Orb at that time. The exact value on an older copy therefore matters, particularly for a build that depends on weapon damage as its main scaling layer.

This maul is best suited to players who enjoy deliberate attacks, sturdy gearing, and a straightforward physical setup rather than an attribute-driven engine. It is less convincing for rapid-hit builds or characters whose damage depends on converting the weapon into another element. Before spending on a replacement, compare the lost resistance and mana support alongside the paper DPS. If the complete character becomes stronger and smoother, a listing found through poe2 trade may be worthwhile, but the weapon should be judged as part of the full loadout, not as an isolated number.
