Tips for Keeping Your Hybrid Car Operational

Recently purchased a hybrid vehicle or considering one? Many people who purchase hybrid vehicles have considered electric cars but wanted something more familiar that still has positive impact on the environment. Hybrid vehicles have a combustion engine and battery pack, so you can still fill up the tank with gas but trust that the battery pack will help you make the most of every gallon. As you settle into your new hybrid vehicle, or prepare to do so, learn more about a few primary tips that keep hybrid vehicles operational and on the road.

Much like a gas-operated vehicle, it is important to check your vehicle’s fluids. A hybrid vehicle has a combustion engine, like a gas-operated vehicle, and so the vehicle needs to have appropriate oil levels and routine oil changes. If you go into a mechanic for this service, they will check the coolant, engine oil, and brake fluid for appropriate types and levels. Another routine tip is to inspect your vehicle’s tires. Like any other type of vehicle, from EV to gas-operated, you need to make sure your tires aren’t worn out and are ready for the weather ahead.

Make sure that you schedule routine cooling system checks. This means checking on your vehicle’s cooling system, but remember that different hybrid vehicles have different systems. However, like a standard gas-operated vehicle, every hybrid car has some type of radiator system and coolant in use. The coolant breaks down over time, creating deposits within the radiator. You’ll need your radiator, regardless of type, to be flushed out and refilled with clean fluid.

You may choose to see a mechanic that specializes in hybrid vehicles because they can also check in on your hybrid car battery. This is known as the hybrid vehicle’s auxiliary car battery. Most hybrid cars have two kinds of batteries: mass storage batteries for the electric motor, and a standard car battery for the internal combustion engine. The mass storage batteries are typically replaced every 5 years, but the average battery for hybrid cars can last up to 10 years when well-maintained.

When it comes to hybrid vehicle care tips, you may need a specialized mechanic to help you with your hybrid model. However, many of these car tips roll over from your days of owning the standard gas-operated vehicle, and that can make your transition to a hybrid vehicle much easier.
