Malcolm has played RuneScape since his youth, and has also dabbled in many of the leading idle games RuneScape Gold, such as Clicker Heroes, Cookie Clicker and NGU Idle. While he was a fan however, he believed that the genre had the potential to do something more satisfying in a similar way to Jagex's flagship RPG.

"So I set out to create my own, never really imagining it would even be released, much less become so well-known," he tells GamesIndustry.biz. "I was trying to make something that wasn't in the conventional idle game mold, something that was feature-rich and offered players a real options in how they wanted to go about their lives instead of just increasing numbers continuously.

After pondering this idea bit in the privacy of my own home I began combining ideas and mechanics from traditional MMOs alongside the popular idle game model, resulting in something fun to play in a casual way, while on the move and integrated into the player's hectic life."

Melvor adds: "While the numbers and stats aren't the things that players really enjoy about MMOs However, it's what gamers who are hardcore be drawn to once the exploration is over. Since it is often central to what the long-term players are focused on it makes sense to make this a core part of the game's design RuneScape 2007 Gold. In addition, it's compatible with the common design elements found in most idle games."
